News & Views:  Peoria (Market Report)

Here we will provide a list of what we plan to sell on the next market day at the Peoria Riverfront Market. This is typically reported in the afternoon or evening before market day.

Saturday in Princeton and Peoria we are planning to bring blackberries, red raspberries, and what might be the last of the season’s blueberries. We will have muskmelon and the first few watermelon. We have tomatoes, including lower priced ones for canning. We also plan to bring green and ripe peppers, green and yellow beans, cucumbers, garlic, potatoes, popcorn, and a few ground cherries. In Princeton we will also have a good selection of Plow Creek Bakery goodies.

Saturday in Princeton and Peoria we plan to bring a good quantity of blackberries. There will be discounts for larger blackberry purchases. We also still have a fair amount of blueberries and an increasing amount of red raspberries. Very few muskmelon; we are between plantings. I will try to pick some of our plums in the morning before going to Princeton. We have a big supply of tomatoes: heirlooms, small varieties, and regular types. Also at markets we will probably have popcorn, garlic, cucumbers, green and yellow beans, onions, and herbs. And in Princeton we will have plenty of Plow Creek Bakery goodies.

Today is the last day for good amounts of blueberries at the Farmers’ Markets in Princeton and Peoria. We also are bringing a few red raspberries, some blackberries, and muskmelon. We have lots of tomatoes, including some lower priced ones for canning, plus popcorn, garlic, potatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, yellow and green beans, tomatillos and onions. In Princeton, we will also have a good selection of Plow Creek Bakery goodies.

With freezing weather this weekend, this will probably be the end of the red raspberries for the season. We will have good quantities at the Princeton and Peoria farmers’ markets. We also will bring lots of pumpkins, acorn and butternut squash, as well as chestnuts and black walnuts and our own whole wheat flour. We also will have some grapes and watermelon. In Princeton we will also have Plow Creek Bakery goods. We don’t know if there will be raspberries to pick on Saturday; it depends on how cold it gets.

Cool weather delayed both the growing and the ripening of the watermelons this year, but today we finally pulled in a good sized pile of red seedless watermelon. We also have red watermelon with seeds, and sweet yellow watermelons. They will be available at Farmers’ Markets (Princeton and Peoria on Saturday; Princeton and LaSalle on Tuesday) and at our farm stand.

Saturday in Peoria we expect to have yellow watermelon, blueberries, a few red raspberries, blackberries, cantaloupe, tomatoes (regular, heirloom, cherry, and roma), tomatillos, basil, celery, potatoes, zucchini, cucumbers (special sale), onions (sweet, red, and green), shallots, garlic, green beans, peppers (green, ripe and reduced price ripe seconds), cabbage, kale, carrots, and beets.

We have decided to come to the Peoria Market for the next several weeks, at least during blueberry season for all our loyal Peoria blueberry customers.

Flats full of blueberries for marketSerious blueberries are here. We plan to bring lots to both Peoria and Princeton on Saturday.

Currently, we are not sure if we will come to the Peoria Market this year. I plan to post it here and on our News Page if we decide to sell in Peoria.

We will not be in Peoria this week. We don’t have enough produce available to support the trip. We’re also not sure how the flooding of the Illinois River will affect the market.

Red raspberries have finally arrived in good quantity. You may pick them up Blueberry Hill and by the yellow Raspberry Shed by our Market Barn. Yesterday we picked over 600 watermelon: traditional red with seeds, red seedless, and small sweet yellow watermelons. Great for your Labor Day picnic. Both watermelon and raspberries will be available in good quantity at the Princeton and Peoria Farmers’ markets.

We will have plenty of sweet corn, tomatoes, cantaloupe, green beans at market. We have smaller quantities of berries, so come early for blueberries, blackberries or raspberries.
