Fall Red Raspberry season is underway, and you can find a good supply at Valley Flowers in Spring Valley Thursday from 8AM to 2PM. Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, Muskmelon, Bread, Cookies and Watermelon (5 varieties) will also be on display.

Back at the farm, Raspberry U-Pick will be open Thursday from 8AM to 8PM.

wagon load of freshly picked watermelonYesterday we harvested about 75 watermelon, including Red Seedless, Yellow and Sugar Baby (a very sweet red variety with a solid, dark green shell). They are delicious! Find yours today at Valley Flowers in Spring Valley, on Saturday at the Princeton or Peoria market, or 6 days a week at our Market Barn.

August 10th update: the accompanying photo shows an additional 250 watermelons which were harvested on Friday.

Plow Creek tomatoes and melons make another extra appearance at Valley Flowers on Monday from 8:30 to 2:00. A good sampling of other vegetables will also be present.

Note that our shade tent and tables are now less visible, since the city of Spring Valley has required us to set up in the parking lot rather than the sidewalk.

Plow Creek tomatoes make an extra appearance at Valley Flowers on Monday morning. All varieties will be in good supply, including large red slicing tomatoes, Brandywine heirloom and Be My Baby cherry tomatoes. Cantaloupe and a yet-to-be determined selection of vegetables will also be present.

Know your tomatoes Thursday at Valley Flowers!  The tomatoes will put on a show from 8:30AM - 1PM.  Stop by to view our seven different home-grown varieties: Sunshine and Daybreak red slicers, Orange Blossom yellow slicers, Plum Crimson romas, Washington and Be My Baby cherries, and Brandywine, a large heirloom variety.

We also plan to bring a good supply of sweet corn (Lancelot, one of our favorite varieties), along with cantaloupe, sweet onions, garlic, new potatoes, green and yellow beans, and an increasingly colorful selection of peppers: green, red, yellow, jalapeno, banana and “chocolate.”  Berries are in short supply, but early arrivals may find some blueberries and blackberries.

Bread and cookies from Plow Creek Bakery will also join the party.

It’s beginning to look a lot like summer here at Plow Creek Farm. Stop by Valley Flowers in Spring Valley Thursday 8:30AM - 1PM to select your favorite colors and flavors: Blueberries, Red Raspberries, Blackberries, Sweet Corn, Cherry Tomatoes, Cantaloupe, Green Beans, Peas, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Lettuce, Potatoes, Garlic, Herbs and lots of other veggies. Plus, Bread and Cookies from Plow Creek Bakery.

A good supply of Red Raspberries will be available at the Princeton Farmer’s market on Tuesday June 26th. They join the blueberries, peas, bok choy, chard, kale, lettuce, radishes, beets, green onions, herbs and green bell peppers. This lineup will also visit Spring Valley Thursday morning.

A small amount of red raspberries may be available for U-Pick during blueberry u-pick sessions, but picking is still scattered and during this early season we will hold most of our raspberries for market and CSA.

The strawberries continue to beat expectations, with very good quality berries still available to the patient picker. We will be that patient picker Thursday morning, and you can witness the fruits of our hard work with another good supply of strawberries at Valley Flowers in Spring Valley. Blueberries should also be available through most of our 8:30-1PM stint, along with peas, lettuce, herbs, chard and various greens. Such extended red/blue overlap of fresh-picked berries is almost as rare as the cicadas (who have become our Blueberry U-Pick mascot). Enjoy them while you can!

Thursday morning at Valley Flowers, the strawberries and blueberries join forces for a memorable mix of color, flavor and natural goodness. We have a good supply of our fresh-picked early blueberries at $5/pint and a moderate supply of Jewel strawberries at $4.25/quart. Both have home-grown flavor that’s hard to find. Sorry, no quantity discounts at this time. This is likely our last significant supply of strawberries to Spring Valley. Edible pod snap peas, snow peas, herbs and various salad greens will also be available.

Due to the early strawberry crop, we will sell this Thursday in front of Valley Flowers on Route 6 in Spring Valley. Meet us there for fresh-picked strawberries, spinach, lettuce, rhubarb, radishes and herbs from 8:00 to 1:00.

After a great season of Thursday sales at Spring Valley, sales and crops have now fallen off enough to call it a year. A big thank you goes out to each customer who stopped by the flower shop to support the continued cultivation of natural treats from strawberries to spinach to sweet potatoes (with lots of others in between).

We now have an abundance of red slicing tomatoes, orange blossom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and roma/plum tomatoes. Find them Thursday morning at Valley Flowers in Spring Valley, Thursday evening in Wyoming or any day at our Market Barn at the farm.
