Internship Opportunities

If you are interested in a hard-work learning experience that will give you a feel and some skills for farming, and a communal experience as well, you should look into the Farm Internship.  It will run from April 10 until late September for a fuller experience of the farm year, but we may also  make a summer program available for students who just have the summer available. The details are at plowcreekfarm.com/intern.htm.

While we are not offering a community based internship here the summer of 2010, we are open to having long term guests who are interested in exploring life in intentional Christian community.  If you are interested in visiting, for either longer or shorter times, please contact Louise at stahnke@plowcreek.org.

Plow Creek Fellowship seeks 2-4 interns for an extensive immersion experience in Christian Communal living. Interns will participate in work, study, and daily life alongside community members. Bakery, Organic-type* Market Farm, Spiritual Growth/ Sharing, and Peace and Justice areas will be explored, among others. The internship will range in time from 3-12 months, beginning in June, 2008.

We view this time as a family-friendly experience, and will, to the best of our abilities, try to accommodate families with children.
Information about Plow Creek is available by exploring this site or at the following mailing address:

Explore Intentional Christian Community

This summer of 2008 in rural Central Illinois

Plow Creek Fellowship began in 1971 as an offshoot to Reba Place Fellowship, country style.
We are located just south of I-80, near the small town of Tiskilwa, on a 189 acre farm.  We have
found that life in Intentional Christian Community has taught us many good things about following
our Lord Jesus and walking with one another.  And we are delighted that this current generation
of young adults is seeking ways to bring their economic and social life into alignment with God's Kingdom values.

We are offering a summer internship with us for 2 people.  The experience will be shaped by who
those people are, but these are some of the basics:
Living and working with us, sharing our life together in worship, work, and fellowship
Living as part of a family during the summer
Worshiping with us on Sunday mornings and Thursday evening vespers
Being welcome into an ongoing Bible study
           Sharing your gifts with us
If you are interested, we will be glad to provide a mentor for personal spiritual growth
Weekly internship meeting with 2 mentors.  We will use this time to review how
your experience is going with us, as well as discussion on intentional Christian
                       community using appropriate materials.
Being a part of our weekly fellowship meetings – a combination of meal together,
worship, personal sharing, as well as being a participant in business items.
Your participation in discussion of business items is welcomed, though final
decision making remains in the hands of regular members.
Sharing in our work life.  We have 2 fellowship businesses – a small bakery and
a farm where we grow berries and a wide variety of vegetables using natural,
earth friendly methods of farming.  While we require no previous experience
for either the bakery or the farm, an interest in the work is an asset to all.  The
quality of our business' products depends on each team member's
cooperation and diligence.  Work hours would come to approximately 40 hrs.
per week, and as much as possible would include a variety of work situations,
i.e. helping cook common meals, helping in food preservation, maintenance work,
and assisting in international peace work, farm and bakery will be the settings for
the bulk of the work.  In assigning the weekly work schedule, we will consider
your interests and abilities.  Although we try to find a good fit to make your labor
both enjoyable and productive, neither work environment is right for everyone.
Sharing in our financial life is a part of the internship as well.  Your work contributions to
farm and bakery will cover your cost of living here.  You will receive a personal
allowance of $33 a month, the same as fellowship members.  On site transportation
will be provided.  We ask that you be prepared to cover any medical expenses.
