Mark and Louise Stahnke                      A Story of Abuse and Healing by Louise

Louise Stahnke and Mark Stahnke portrait

We felt the Lord calling us to intentional Christian Community in 1979 and moved here to Plow Creek with our 2 preschool aged sons. It has been rewarding and rich experience, far beyond our expectations. We came because we felt that this was the right structure for a church, leaving the professional ministry and mainline church behind. We discovered the Lord wanted to teach us many things, especially in the area of relationships and trusting Him. It has also been the setting and support for much emotional healing in our lives.

After 28 years here, both of our sons are grown and following the Lord in the ways He is leading them. We are blessed with a rich and good family life, in spite of often wondering how we would ever survive parenting, especially with two members of our family having ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). But the Lord is faithful. Good counsel and prayers brought us through the worst times. There is a real richness to walking together with other committed Christians throughout the years.

At this point in our lives, we are in our early sixties. Mark is working full time as a marriage, family, and individual therapist in a church related agency. He enjoys playing guitar in our music group, and is looking forward to learning to make his own guitar. We both enjoy living in the country and are very grateful for the good marriage the Lord has given us.

Louise is serving as a church elder, and manages our small bakery business. She also enjoys doing the guest coordination work, plus just having folks stay overnight or for meals. The Lord has brought much healing into her life (see story) and Louise finds much goodness in learning to use good prayer tools and walking with others as they deal with pieces of their own pasts. Another passion is encouraging everyone here to continue growing in knowing the Lord’s love in their life, and to be obedient to His leading.

Life in Christian Community has often been difficult, at times painful, and always rich. It is our answer to the Lord's call to each Christian to live a life of radical obedience.

We invite you to come and explore it with us.

Mark and Louise each sometimes lead our Sunday morning worship.  Some of Louise's meditations may be found on Plow Creek's Sunday Meditations page.
